System Equipping Guidelines

Key Considerations for System Reliability

A properly equipped refrigeration system is essential for long-term performance, efficiency, and reliability. LRC recommends always using a suction accumulator to protect the compressor from liquid refrigerant return, particularly during startup and varying load conditions. Proper component selection and system configuration help ensure stable operation and reduce unnecessary wear on critical components.

System sizing and control play a major role in maintaining consistent performance. The condensing unit should be sized slightly smaller than the evaporator at normal or slightly elevated ambient conditions to promote balanced operation. To maintain minimum head pressure during cooler ambient temperatures, condensing units should be equipped with fan cycling or head pressure control, ensuring proper refrigerant flow and dependable year-round performance.

Installation conditions must also be carefully considered. For systems with long refrigerant line sets exceeding 25 feet, a coalescing oil filter is recommended to support proper oil return and extend system life. If an oil filter is not used, correct oil charging during commissioning is critical. Applications requiring humidity levels outside the standard 55–60% range, or systems with duct runs, may require additional design considerations. In these cases, LRC recommends accounting for duct thermal losses and consulting the factory for application-specific guidance.
